Thank you!

I appreciate your interest in my web site. Let me take a moment to tell you a little about myself.

My name is Maria Hernandez, and I have been in the education field for almost 26 years, with over 17 of those years in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada.

My educational experience is secondary-level based. As a classroom teacher I have taught Spanish (levels 1-4) in both Middle School and High School. I was also an ELL teacher in both the Middle School and High School levels. As most ELL teachers do, I have taught all of the core subjects - math, science, social studies, reading, literature, health...it seems like the list goes on and on.

For the past 8 years, I have been an ELL Specialist. Among my varied duties, I test students for English proficiency levels and help determine a class schedule that best serves their needs. I also work with individual teachers in any way that I can to help them help their students. That might include anything from designing courses, to giving demonstration lessons, to offering quick tips when they have a specific problem, to making phone calls to parents. I've even been known to show up at the homes of students who have attendance issues.

I recently completed my Master's degree in School Administration. I haven't quite decided what I'm going to do with that yet, but looking at my school(s) through the eyes of an administrator has given me a new appreciation and understanding of what the needs of our at-risk students are.

Please remember that this is not a "professional" site. It's just one teacher reaching out to others. If you have a comment, a concern, or a question, please feel free to email me. I promise to answer within 24 hours. I might not have all the answers (and I probably don't), but I will definitely respond, and will try to get the answer(s) that you need.
